Integrated Management Systems Lead Wayne Almond, has successfully completed the CQI and IRCA Professional Certificate in Quality Management – a milestone that has enhanced his expertise, broadened his skill set, and led to a well-deserved promotion within his organisation.
We caught up with Wayne to congratulate him on his achievement, find out about his new role at TT Electronics, his motivations for studying rove’s CQI and IRCA training courses, and what impact he thinks his studies will have on his professional journey.
A DYNAMIC ROLE IN A GLOBAL ORGANISATION
As the Integrated Management Systems Lead, Wayne plays a pivotal role at TT Electronics – a global company specialising in engineering and manufacturing electronic solutions that enable a safer, healthier, and more sustainable world.
In his role, Wayne’s responsibilities extend across the organisation.
“Working in a group quality role provides the opportunity to develop and improve systems and processes throughout the wider business,” he explains.
“There isn’t a typical day at work – every day is different – this is what makes the role so interesting. What’s more, working across multiple sites and regions simultaneously means that there is always something happening, keeping me constantly on my toes.
“It’s rewarding to be involved in changes that benefit both the organisation and the individuals within various processes. A personal sense of reward is achieved when a process or system can be improved to help support an individual and make their life/job easier!”
PURSUING PROFESSIONAL GROWTH
Wayne’s decision to enrol in the CQI and IRCA Quality Management course was driven by his desire to enhance his skillset and develop his knowledge – all while gaining globally recognised certification.
Following positive experiences of studying Practitioner level courses with rove, he decided to enrol on the Professional Certificate in Quality Management – designed for experienced practitioners who are in, or who aspire to be in, leadership or senior management positions. It comprises of six courses, covering; performance measurement, quality strategy, process excellence, supply chains, change and improvement and risk management.
Wayne found the broad scope of subjects in the Professional Certificate engaging and enjoyed applying examples from his work experience into the workbook tasks.
“The variation of the modules was fitting for a quality professional. My favourite part was the way the questions were similar, but different – which was very thought-provoking. This made me respond with examples of experience from working life, whilst also reading the resource material.”
CAREER ADVANCEMENT THROUGH LEARNING
Completing the Professional Certificate in Quality Management has had a positive impact on Wayne’s career.
“During the course, I was promoted from a regional role to a corporate group role within my company.
“The course helped me develop and enhance the skills required to engage with senior stakeholders at a corporate level. This, in turn, has helped with successful implementation and improvement projects – benefiting both myself and the company.”
INVALUABLE TUTOR SUPPORT
Balancing the course requirements with professional and personal commitments proved challenging, but Wayne credits the support he received from his tutor.
“Although the course is self-learning my tutor, Chris, was there to support whenever needed.
“The most challenging aspect of the course was meeting deadlines while managing work and personal commitments. However, Chris was great with communicating – ensuring the deadlines were achievable, and the courses were completed within the timeframes.”
HIS ADVICE FOR ASPIRING QUALITY PROFESSIONALS
Wayne’s advice to others considering a CQI and IRCA Quality Management course is to approach it strategically.
“The course can be quite time-consuming and labour-intensive. My advice is to tackle it in manageable chunks to meet the deadlines,” he advises.
LOOKING AHEAD
With his professional training in hand, Wayne is focused on applying his enhanced skills and knowledge in his new role.
“This achievement has deepened my understanding of quality principles and best practices, empowering me to drive continuous improvement and deliver excellence in everything I do.
“In the short term, I will take the skills and knowledge gained from this course and continue to implement into the working environment. I’m looking forward to applying these insights to create even greater value in my professional journey.”
